A delegation from the International Atomic Energy Agency will visit Russia to inspect its nuclear management in 2009, at Moscow's invitation.
"We expect a law on nuclear and radiation security in Russia to be adopted before the IAEA inspection," said the head of Rostekhnadzor, Konstantin Pulikovsky.
He said the law should be drafted before the end of the current year and submitted to the State Duma, Russia's lower house of parliament, for consideration in 2008.
Pulikovsky said earlier that international appraisal of Russia's nuclear and radiation safety compliance is very important for its ambitious plans to develop the nuclear industry.
Currently, all of Russia's 10 nuclear power plants with a total installed capacity of over 23 GW are run by the country's nuclear power plant operator Rosenergoatom.
