TEHRAN, September 20 (RIA Novosti) - Iran has successfully tested two domestically built new-generation fighters, official media said Thursday.
The new family of Azarakhsh fighters, called the Saegheh, was designed, developed and manufactured by Iran's Defense Ministry and Air Force experts, said Iran's Defense Minister Gen. Mostafa Mohammad Najjar, who observed the flights, together with top military commanders and MPs.
The fighters will officially join Iran's Air Force September 22, in memory of the Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988).
The Saegheh aircraft are a new generation of the Azarakhsh class of fighters. Both Azarakhsh and Saegheh mean lightening in Farsi.
