NAZRAN, September 20 (RIA Novosti) - A Niva off road vehicle carrying military personnel came under fire in the largest city in Russia's southern republic of Ingushetia Thursday, two servicemen were killed and two wounded, a police source said.
"The attack occurred at about 13:40 Moscow time [9:40 a.m. GMT] in the center of Nazran," a source said adding investigators were working at the scene.
Half an hour earlier in a separate incident in the republic, which borders Chechnya, a heavy Ural truck carrying troops was attacked on the federal Kavkaz highway near the village of Yandare, two servicemen were wounded.
"Gunmen opened fire on the truck from a black Zhiguli car, the truck swerved and overturned," a police source said.
The volatile province has seen a surge in militant attacks against police and civilians in recent months. Neighboring Chechnya saw two Moscow-led military campaigns against separatist regimes in the 1990s- early 2000s.
