VELIKY NOVGOROD, October 3 (RIA Novosti) - A bear and its cub were killed early on Wednesday morning while crossing the road, when a minivan knocked them down in Russia's Novgorod region, a traffic police spokesman said.
The spokesman said a Ford Transit minivan driver from Moscow, traveling on the M10 federal highway connecting the Russian capital and St. Petersburg, drove into the bear and its two cubs.
The newly-orphaned baby bear ran off to the nearby forest. There were no other injuries in the accident, the spokesman added.
In the last two years, over 20 people have been injured, and one has died in road accidents involving large-sized animals, including elks, in the Novgorod Region.
