Heavy snowfall leaves over 40,000 people without power

Over 40,000 people were left without electricity in the Moscow and Smolensk Regions, west Russia, after Sunday's snowstorm damaged power lines, local emergencies said on Monday.
MOSCOW, October 15 (RIA Novosti) - Over 40,000 people were left without electricity in the Moscow and Smolensk Regions, west Russia, after Sunday's snowstorm damaged power lines, local emergencies said on Monday.

The spokesman also said that power has now been restored in a total of 241 villages.

Repair works involving some 700 people started on Sunday after heavy snowfall caused power cables to collapse in the region.

Authorities said power in the Moscow Region was expected to be restored by the end of the day.
