TEL AVIV, October 22 (RIA Novosti) - Fifteen Palestinian prisoners have been injured in a riot that broke out last night at an Israeli prison, Israeli authorities said on Monday.
"One inmate is in a critical condition, another three were hospitalized, while the other 11 prisoners received minor injuries which were treated on site," a spokesman for the Israeli prisons administration said.
He said the riot began during a routine search at the Ketziot prison, in southern Israel, when inmates started throwing various objects at the guards.
The official said that it took about an hour to restore order, adding that about 15 prison guards had been slightly injured.
The Israeli Internet site Ynet, citing Palestinian authorities, earlier reported that more than 50 Palestinians were injured.
Over 10,000 Palestinian are currently serving sentences in Israeli prisons.
