MAKHACHKALA, October 27 (RIA Novosti) - A policeman in the Russian southern republic of Daghestan made 18 warning shots while trying to stop offenders and accidentally wounded himself in the leg, a law enforcement source said Saturday.
The source said four offenders in the town of Kizilyurt tried to penetrate a guarded area adjacent to a police station.
"The policeman performing his duties to guard the facility made 18 warning shots from the Kalashnikov assault rifle to stop the illegal action; he wounded himself in the leg and was hospitalized," the source said.
The offenders have been detained. An investigation is underway.
