MOSCOW, October 29 (RIA Novosti) - Police officers have closed down a restaurant in southwest Moscow that killed stray dogs and served them as mutton, a police spokesman said on Monday.
Filipp Zolotnitsky said that during an investigation into the restaurant, located in the same building as a student hall of residence in southwest Moscow, police established that the cafe served meals containing the meat of dogs killed on the premises.
"Medical specialists established that meat seized as part of the investigation was dog meat, most which was from unhealthy dogs," Zolotnitsky said.
A criminal case has been launched against the owners of the restaurant on charges of animal cruelty and selling food unfit for human consumption.
