The United Nations human rights committee approved a draft resolution calling for a moratorium on the death penalty in a 99-52 vote with 33 abstentions.
The document, jointly introduced by the 27-nation European Union along with 60 other countries calls for establishing "a moratorium on executions with a view to abolishing the death penalty."
