During his stay in Tehran, Deputy Foreign Minister Hussein Derar exchanged views on bilateral relations, as well as regional and international issues, with Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki
He also passed on a written message from Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit.
On Tuesday, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said he would accept an invitation to visit Egypt if Tehran-Cairo diplomatic ties were resumed.
Egypt is the only Arab state with which Iran has no diplomatic relations. All diplomatic ties between the two countries were severed in 1979, after the-then Egyptian president Anwar Sadat signed a peace treaty with Israel, a state that Tehran refuses to recognize.
The same year, Egypt granted political asylum to Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the Iranian Shah who fled Iran following the 1979 Islamic revolution.
Iranian authorities earlier declared that they presently saw no obstacles for restoring full diplomatic ties with Egypt.
