ST. PETERSBURG, December 13 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Federal Drug Control Service arrested a job applicant at its St. Petersburg branch after learning that the would-be narcotics agent was himself a suspected drug dealer.
A spokesman for the agency said the man had initially seemed suitable, but that a thorough examination of his background had "raised concerns about his motives."
One kilogram of amphetamines was later discovered in the man's car, and he was arrested. Further checks revealed he had also faked intelligence officer ID cards.
"The information he would have got access to if he had become a Drug Control Service officer may have contributed to criminal activity," the agency said in a statement.
