CAIRO, December 19 (RIA Novosti) - Almost all single Libyan girls begin getting to know a man by finding out whether he is financially solvent, the JANA national news agency said on Wednesday, citing an opinion survey.
Libya's "proud-hearted and sincere" women do not waste their time and love on an unpromising candidate, as wedding costs in the country are so high.
The country's tradition says that a man wishing to marry, should provide his bride with a personal apartment or a furnished house, offer her several kilograms of gold jewelry and pay a dowry to her family.
He will also have to pay for the wedding for the whole village or at least half of it.
Sociologists warn that Libyan men could lose patience and begin looking for a wife abroad if the situation continues.
