Egypt Bedouin attack post on Israeli border

CAIRO, January 8 (RIA Novosti) -- Bedouin tribesmen fired rocket propelled grenades on Egypt's al-Ouja crossing point into Israel Tuesday, wounding two people, Egypt's official news agencies MENA said.

It said a police officer and customs official were wounded at the commercial crossing point southeast of the Rafah crossing point between Egypt and the Gaza Strip, when the Bedouin, carrying rifles and autonomic weapons, fired shots randomly at cars parked nearby.

Dozens of armed Bedouin were protesting the arrest of two of their number by police on Monday in the wake of a tribal dispute.

The Bedouin took over the al-Ouja border crossing for 15 minutes and left before the arrival of police reinforcements.

The Bedouin accuse the Egyptian government of discrimination, saying they are excluded from jobs, especially in the tourist industry.

Two rockets were fired into northern Israel across the border from Lebanon overnight, police said earlier Tuesday.

The incident comes shortly before U.S. President George Bush starts a six-day tour of the Middle East, due to arrive in Israel on Wednesday.
