"No government member should make statements or give a press conference without permission from the Kyrgyz prime minister," Bakiyev said as the new government was sworn into office.
On December 16, President Bakiyev's Ak Zhol party won a landslide victory in early parliamentary elections expected to end two years of political upheaval in the ex-Soviet state. A new prime minister was elected and a new Cabinet was appointed in late December.
The Kyrgyz leader accused ministers of "excessive independence" and giving preference to politics while economics gets pushed to the background.
Bakiyev also proposed that every minister keep the text of the oath on their desks, "not to forget about their commitments to the people for a minute."
