SAN FRANCISCO, January 16 (RIA Novosti) - Law enforcement officers in California's Alameda County have arrested seven men charged with organizing cockfights, and confiscated 450 hens and roosters, local media reported on Wednesday.
Sheriff's deputies received a tipoff from a concerned citizen who saw a cockfight in progress on Sunday.
In a search conducted on Sunday night in Livermore at a property of one of the suspects, more than 300 gamecocks "used or prepared for use in cockfights" were found, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
Another 150 gamecocks and hens were seized from another property.
"The investigation is continuing, and authorities are trying to find suitable homes for the confiscated roosters and hens," the newspaper quoted the sheriff's spokesman as saying.
