MOSCOW, January 23 (RIA Novosti) - Sugar production in Russia in 2007 dropped 1.1% year on year, to about 3 million metric tons, the Russian union of sugar producers said on Wednesday.
A total of 23.5 million metric tons of sugar beet was processed in 2007, down 3.9% year on year.
According to the preliminary information from the Federal Statistics Service, the total harvest for sugar beet in 2007 stood at 28.8 million metric tons, a yield of 29.06 tons per hectare.
In 2006, a total of 30 million metric tons was harvested in Russia, a yield of 32 tons per hectare.
