KAZAN, January 28 (RIA Novosti) - Four children died in a snow slide in the Republic of Tatarstan in Russia's Volga region, an emergency service spokeswoman said on Monday.
"A group of children aged between nine and thirteen were skiing in a gully near Bugulma when a snow slide occurred. Four of them died, while five survived," Svetlana Lebedeva said.
She added that three teenagers had been hospitalized and another two sent home. The children had been skiing unaccompanied.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, such accidents are not uncommon in the republic, which saw heavy snow last week with a thaw over the last two days. A teenager was killed in another snow slide earlier.
