MOSCOW, January 31 (RIA Novosti) - Opposition coalition The Other Russia said Thursday it plans to hold dissenters' marches in St. Petersburg and Moscow on March 3, the day after the presidential election.

"Protests will also be held in tens of other Russian regions," press secretary Lyudmila Mamina said. "All leaders of the Other Russia, including United Civil Front leader Garry Kasparov, will participate."

She said ex-premier Mikhail Kasyanov could also join the march.

Kasparov, an outspoken critic of President Vladimir Putin, who he accuses of turning Russia into a "police state," was arrested in central Moscow in late November 2007 while leading a pre-election coalition rally for The Other Russia. Kasparov was held in custody for five days, on charges of violating laws on public meetings.

First Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, publicly backed by Putin, is a clear frontrunner for the election.
