LONDON, February 3 (RIA Novosti) - The captain of a Russian ship seized by pirates off the coast of Somalia is a British national, a spokesman for the U.K. Foreign Office said on Sunday.
Russian Far Eastern rescue center said earlier on Sunday that the ship, Svitser Korsakov, had been seized by pirates at 1:17 p.m. Greenwich time on February 1 near Somalia, adding that there were six people aboard the tug boat.
The spokesman said Britain's Foreign Office had no information on how many people there were aboard the ship, apart from the captain, and what their nationality was.
The Russian Far Eastern rescue center earlier said the pirates were driving the seized ship to the south, to the equator, most probably, to the port of Mogadishu.
