Pichushkin, nicknamed the "chessboard killer" for his fantasy of filling the squares on a chessboard with his murders, was sentenced to life in jail by the Moscow City Court on October 29 last year. During his trial, he claimed several of his murders had gone unnoticed.
Moscow Prosecutor Yuri Syomin said: "Investigations into these reports have been concluded. Pichushkin's testimony during the investigation on these episodes has not been confirmed. There is no objective evidence that he committed these crimes in the circumstances he spoke about."
The 33-year-old former supermarket worker killed most of his victims between 2001 and 2006 in wooded areas of south Moscow's Bitsa Park. However, he said during his trial that he had begun killing in 1992, long before his main spree, and recounted his first murder, when he strangled a 19-year-old classmate and threw him down a well.
Pichushkin filed an appeal in November last year against his life sentence. He said verdict was "harsh and unfair," and requested that the court reduce his sentence to 25 years' imprisonment.
Russia's Supreme Court will consider the appeal on February 14.
