VORONEZH, February 7 (RIA Novosti) - More than 50 cows have drowned in an ice-covered river in central Russia, a local emergencies spokesman said on Thursday.
The cows had been sent to graze outside their farm without supervision.
"The animals went to the river and then apparently fell through the ice," the spokesman said.
Some 30 dead cows have been so far pulled out from the Don River in Russia's Lipetsk Region. Divers used hawsers and hooks to bring the cows to the surface.
