The Russian film "12" directed by Oscar-winning director Nikita Mikhalkov and the Kazakh film "Mongol," directed by Russian filmmaker Sergei Bodrov were both included in a five-film shortlist for the "Best Foreign Film" in the Oscar awards.
They were beaten out by Austria's Holocaust-era drama "The Counterfeiters," directed by Stefan Ruzowitzky, which depicts a group of Jews who produce counterfeit currency for the Nazis in a concentration camp.
In the 'Best Animated Short Film' category, Oscar-winner Alexander Petrov's animated film "My Love" has lost to the British "Peter & the Wolf."
"No Country For Old Men" won the Oscar for best picture and best supporting actor, and its makers, Hollywood outsiders brothers Joel and Ethan Coen, were named best directors on Sunday.
