WARSAW, February 29 (RIA Novosti) - The former Polish president and Nobel Peace Prize winner Lech Walesa has successfully undergone heart surgery, Polish TVN24 said on Friday.
The operation to implant a pacemaker was conducted in the U.S. at the Methodist DeBakey Heart Center, Houston. The operation was described as "routine."
Zbigniew Wojciechowski, an anesthesiologist at the Houston-based center, said Walesa, 64, could be discharged from the clinic on Saturday. The Polish politician also underwent a vascular operation on Thursday.
Walesa, the legendary leader of Poland's first independent trade union, Solidarity, had been complaining of retrosternal pain, labored breathing and fatigue.
