CHITA, March 1 (RIA Novosti) -- Ravil Geniatullin has been inaugurated as governor of the Trans-Baikal Territory, a local administration spokesman said on Saturday.
In late July, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law establishing the Trans-Baikal Territory as the country's new constituent region.
Geniatulin, nominated by the presidential plenipotentiary in the Siberian Federal District, was elected the first governor of the newly-established territory on February 5.
The Trans-Baikal Territory will become the country's new constituent region by January 1, 2010.
Elections to the local Duma have been scheduled for October 12, 2008.
