The woman, only known as Hengameh, filed a complaint in court against her husband claiming her dowry after 10 years of marriage. Under Iranian law, a woman can claim her dowry, paid on marriage, from her husband at any time.
"Shortly after marriage I realized that Shahin was very cheap. He even refused to pay for my coffee if we went to a cafe or restaurant," she said.
A rose in the Islamic Republic costs almost $2, so the man will have to pay some $235,000 for the whole bouquet. If he refuses to repay the dowry, he could go to jail.
Claiming that he could only afford to buy five roses a day, Shahin denied the charges saying that it was his wife's "billionaire friends who had put such ideas in her head."
The court has so far confiscated the man's $64,000 apartment until he has bought all the roses.
