Ford is showing off its three-door hatchback Fiesta, a mainstay of its European lineup, which will go on sale in Europe and China next year. U.S. buyers will have to wait another year.
New small cars also include General Motors' Chevrolet Aveo 3T. A new three-door Mazda2 version is also to be unveiled.
The redesigned, wider, lower and more modern-looking Honda Accord also saw its official public debut in Switzerland. The sports car will go on sale in Europe this summer.
The new Volkswagen Scirocco also broke cover at the show. The Scirocco is equipped with a 197-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter TFSI engine, with a choice of six-speed manual or DSG dual-clutch gearbox.
Crossovers include French Renault's Koleos, Volvo's new XC60, and three Korean KIA vehicles set to go on sale no earlier than 2010, and Toyota's small Urban Cruiser, designed to cut CO2 emissions.
BMW will introduce a mild hybrid concept version of its X5 containing technology to cut CO2 emissions and improve fuel economy. The concept has solar cells on the roof, which generate power to operate equipment such as audio devices or mobile-phone chargers.
The Geneva show features a variety of hybrids and other low-emission vehicles.
Rolls-Royce will unveil its new Phantom Coupe, a two-door model powered by a 453-hp, 6.75-liter V-12. The car, whose production begins this year, is expected to become the most expensive Rolls-Royce model.
Also on display is a futuristic-looking Alfa Romeo 8C Spider. Alfa will build 500 units of this sports car brand with displacement boosted to 4.7 liters and horsepower to 450. Experts say the car could cost some 200,000 euros (over $300,000).
