MOSCOW, March 9 (RIA Novosti) - Police have detained a person suspected of involvement in the murder of a senior police officer in North Ossetia in Russia's restive North Caucasus region, a local police source said on Sunday.
Mark Metsayev, the chief of the North Ossetia police department for combating organized crime, was shot dead in the republic's capital, Vladikavkaz, late on Friday, when unidentified assailants ambushed his vehicle and opened fire with automatic weapons.
"Investigators believe that the detained person, whose name is not disclosed in the interests of investigation, directly participated in the ambushing of the police department chief's car and his killing," the source said.
