LONDON, March 9 (RIA Novosti) - Russian energy giant Gazprom could become a sponsor of the 2012 Olympic Games in London, a British newspaper said on Sunday.
Gazprom has held talks with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) with a prospect of becoming one of 12 potential global sponsors after the Beijing Games this summer, The Sunday Times said.
"The IOC has already signed up nine companies, including Coca-Cola, McDonald's and Visa, as global sponsors for 2009-2012," the paper said.
A sponsor from the oil and gas sector is to be chosen in coming months.
