MOSCOW, March 22 (RIA Novosti) - A policeman fatally shot a man who tried to grab the officer's Kalashnikov automatic rifle on a road in Russia's North Caucasus republic of Chechnya, local police said on Saturday.
The incident occurred at a checkpoint near the village of Davydenko when the officer stopped a Lada car for a document check.
"The car's passenger, a local resident, put up resistance... and tried to seize the officer's Kalashnikov automatic rifle," a police source told RIA Novosti.
On being attacked, the officer shot the man, who was then taken to hospital, where he later died.
Local prosecutors are investigating the incident, but preliminary information suggests that the officer acted appropriately under the circumstances, the source said.
