ROSTOV-ON-DON, April 1 (RIA Novosti) - A twin brother and sister, who were left home alone by their mother, died in a fire in southern Russia's Rostov Region, an emergencies service spokesman said on Tuesday.
The four-year-old children died from smoke inhalation.
"The mother locked them in a kitchen and left. According to preliminary data, the children started playing with matches, which caused a fire. They suffocated from poisonous fumes," the source said.
He added that local residents managed to extinguish the blaze before the fire service arrived.
