MOSCOW, April 2 (RIA Novosti) - Inflation in Russia stood at 1.2% and 4.8% in March and in the first three months of 2008, respectively, the Statistics Service said in a statement on Wednesday.

In 2007, inflation stood at 0.6% in March and at 3.4% in the first three months of the year, the Statistics Service said.

Inflation has been Russia's biggest worry. With global oil prices and the influx of petrodollars unlikely to subside in 2008, the government may fail to restrain consumer price growth.

At the same time, Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin earlier said the Russian government intended keeping inflation within the projected figure of 8.5% in 2008.

Inflation in Russia stood at 11.9% in 2007, exceeding the government's initial target of 8% for last year. Inflation in 2006 was 9%, in line with government targets.
