MAKHACHKALA, April 20 (RIA Novosti) - Police found a cache full of arms and ammunition in Daghestan in Russia's troubled North Caucasus region, a local police source said on Sunday.
The police found the arms cache in a private house in the village of Gimry in the republic's mountainous Untsukul district on Saturday. The arms cache contained about 15 kg of chemical components for explosives, two Kalashnikov machine guns and a large amount of cartridges.
Measures are under way to find the owners of the arms cache, the source said.
Although the active phase of the antiterrorism campaign in the North Caucasus officially ended in 2001, periodic bombings and clashes between militants and federal troops still disrupt Chechnya and nearby regions, including Daghestan and Ingushetia
