STAVROPOL, April 28 (RIA Novosti) - Locals in south Russia were forced to chain a man to a kennel after he set fire to his house in a drunken stupor and interfered with firefighters putting out the blaze, the local emergencies ministry said Monday.

The 45-year-old man who had reportedly over celebrated Easter in Russia's Stavropol Territory on Sunday night "kicked over a heater as he slept, setting fire to clothes," the spokesman said.

The man's mother saw the flames coming from the house and called the rescue services. On arrival firefighters dragged the drunken man out of the building.

The man, however, went back into his house in an attempt to save his property. Relatives were forced to restrain him by chaining him to a dog kennel only releasing him after the fire was out.

The fire destroyed all the furniture and personal items in the house. The total damage is being estimated.
