"Vladimir Putin's presidency was a golden period in Iran-Russia relations. We made huge strides. Both sides conducted extensive and excellent cooperation in their interests. I am convinced in view of these factors and the common ground between Iran and Russia, this cooperation will continue forward," Gholamreza Ansari told the Moscow-based Ekho Moskvy radio.
Ansari said Medvedev, sworn in today, had given his Iranian counterpart a special message on the issue through acting Russian Security Council head Valentin Sobolev. However, a Kremlin source said there was no official information available yet.
Earlier it was reported that Sobolev had handed a message to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad from former Russian president Vladimir Putin on Russia's plans to continue its policy towards Iran.
A high-ranking Russian delegation headed by Sobolev held April 28-30 talks with Iran's leadership in Tehran.
Medvedev submitted Putin's candidacy for prime minister to the lower house of Russia's parliament following his inauguration on Wednesday.
Russia is building a nuclear power plant in Iran's southwestern city of Bushehr. Western countries suspect Iran of pursuing a secret nuclear weapons program, but Tehran insists it need nuclear energy for civilian purposes.
