According to media reports, the Syrian-backed Islamist group Hezbollah took control of the Muslim half of Beirut on Friday after three days of fighting with pro-government militias, which has left at least 47 people dead and over 190 wounded. Lebanon's army is reported to be ready to use force to bring a stop to the violence.
Hariri called the recent violence terrorism and said Hezbollah was supported by Iran and Syria who wanted "to take Lebanon over and put it in Syrian-Iranian hands."
The claims have been echoed by Saudi Arabia and the U.S. but dismissed by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who said his country was not trying to interfere in Lebanon.
At an emergency meeting on Sunday, Arab foreign ministers urged warring Lebanese factions to cease fighting, and decided to send a mission, including Arab League General Secretary Amr Moussa to broker a settlement between the government and the Hezbollah-led opposition.
