KARNI CROSSING (the Gaza Strip), May 22 (RIA Novosti) - Israeli troops shot one Palestinian dead and wounded six on Thursday on the border with the Gaza Strip, when a crowd protesting against Israel's blockade attacked a checkpoint.
Medics told a RIA Novosti correspondent at the Karni crossing in northern Gaza that some of the Palestinians suffered from riot control gas released by the Israeli troops.
Gaza residents have launched several assaults on border crossings amid the ongoing blockade of the crowded Palestinian enclave, where supplies are running low.
Israel closed off Gaza border checkpoints in January this year and imposed restrictions on essential supplies in an attempt to pressure Islamist group Hamas to end rocket attacks against Israeli border towns.
Hamas, considered a terrorist organization by Israel, the U.S. and some EU states, seized control of the enclave from the pro-presidential Fatah movement in June last year.
