LONDON, May 22 (RIA Novosti) - British officials said on Thursday that vandals using a hammer and screwdriver have chipped off a small piece of one of Stonehenge's standing stones.
Two men were seen by security guards vandalizing the stone, but escaped in a car, English Heritage said.
The vandals reportedly cut off a 6-centimeter chunk from the Heel Stone, which stands apart from the main circle.
The 5,000-year-old monument on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire is one of the world's most famous prehistoric sites. Vandalism has been extremely rare since the stones were fenced off decades ago.
