MOSCOW, May 30 (RIA Novosti) - A car belonging to the Russian Consulate General was damaged in a series of coordinated arson attacks in Greece on Friday.

Unknown attackers launched a total of nine separate attacks within 15 minutes in the capital, Athens, and in Thessaloniki, northern Greece. As a result, four banks and two car dealerships, as well as a car belonging to the Russian Consulate, were damaged.

"..Unidentified assailants set fire to a car of Russia's Consulate General in Thessaloniki, using inflammable liquid," a spokesman for the Russian embassy, Vasily Gavrilov, said.

The diplomat added that the front of the car was completed destroyed in the fire, and a nearby car with Greek number plates was damaged. An investigation into the incident is underway.

Police said vandalism was considered as the primary motive for the arson attacks, believed to have been committed by anarchists.

Anarchist groups frequently carry out attacks in Greece, targeting embassies, international and government buildings. The diplomatic vehicles of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as Madagascar and Saudi Arabia were damaged in similar attacks this year.
