MOSCOW. (June 5, RIA Novosti) – The Republic of Dagestan will seek to catch the attention of potential investors at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which opens on June 6, the republic’s President Mukhu Aliyev told RIA Novosti.
“Foreign investors are only beginning to eye our region, which offers good prospects for lucrative investments,” Aliyev said.
The president singled out as potentially attractive investment opportunities the construction industry, brick, natural stone, gravel, sheet glass and cement production, as well as hydro power resources, only 10% of which are currently being used. Dagestan’s geographical position holds out prospects for the development of the transport infrastructure, he noted.
“Dagestan has an international airport and a year-round sea port. It has a moderate climate, substantial reserves of mineral resources and unused land,” Aliyev said.
In his opinion, investments in the tourist business, the development of the Caspian coastal area and the building of tourist facilities offer great opportunities. “Dagestan has huge sand beaches, mineral springs, medicinal mud, plus a unique landscape and magnificent historical monuments,” he said.
The development of the Caspian offshore resources is another promising investment area, according to the president.
