"We are convinced that [paying] attention to breakthroughs in scientific developments is a serious step to truly reliable guarantees of energy resources for everyone, and in the long run, to increasing the quality of life for both the present and future generations," Dmitry Medvedev said at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
The Russian leader said Russia has significantly strengthened its positions on the global energy market in recent years.
"Our country not only invests funds in increasing the production and export of energy resources and infrastructure development. Fundamental research in this sphere was and remains key for us," he said, adding that discussions were focused on developments connected with energy-saving technology and with increasing energy efficiency.
