"The Russian government has allocated $1 million toward urgent humanitarian assistance for Somalia," the ministry said on its website.
The ministry also said a Russian vessel carrying flour was currently on its way to Djibouti, to the north of Somalia. United Nations World Food Program members will be responsible for the further transportation and distribution of the flour.
Somalia's transitional government was established with UN assistance in 2004, but has failed to gain control over the country, which has been transformed into a failed state by a 17-year-long brutal civil war.
Many regions are under the control of warlords or extremist groups. Famine and disease have claimed around one million lives in the nation of nearly nine million since 1991.
