KABUL, June 11 (RIA Novosti) - Police in south Afghanistan seized on Wednesday what is believed to be the largest amount of hashish ever discovered by law enforcement officers anywhere in the world, local officials have said.
The 236.8 metric tons of hashish was found lying in bags under the earth in the Spin Boldak district in the Kandahar province after a tip-off. The hashish was subsequently burnt by police officers.
"The overall weight of the drugs was more than 30 British double-decker buses," said a spokesman for the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan.
The hashish had an estimated street value of $400 million.
