The Sudan Airways Airbus with 214 passengers and crew on board shot off the runway and burst into flames just moments after landing in a thunderstorm at Khartoum International Airport Tuesday evening.
The airport's public relations officer told journalists that fourteen people are still unaccounted for with 171 managing to escape the burning plane.
"Airbus will provide technical assistance to the French Bureau d'Enquetes et d'Analyses (BEA) and to the Authorities of Sudan. A go-team of five Airbus specialists is being dispatched to Sudan to assist the Authorities," the company said on its website.
Airbus also expressed its "concerns and sympathy" to those affected by the tragedy.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev sent a telegram to the Sudanese president saying: "I ask you to convey my sincere condolences to the relatives and loved ones of those killed and wishes of a quick recovery to those injured."
Airbus is one of the world's leading aircraft manufacturers created in 1970 and now employing 57,000 people. It has produced over 5,000 aircraft both for civilian and military flights.
