MOSCOW, June 24 (RIA Novosti) - A newborn child in the southwest Siberian town of Bolotnoe has been named after Guus Hiddink, the Dutch trainer of the Russian national soccer team, the 'Sport' TV channel reported on Tuesday.

The child's parents said they had decided to give their child the name 'Guus' to commemorate the recent success of the side. The name is as unusual to Russian ears as the sound of the team's fans celebrating a number of recent notable victories.

Russia defeated Holland 3-1 on Saturday to reach the semifinals of Euro 2008. The current tournament has seen the side's best performance since the split up of the Soviet Union.

The child's full name is Gus Vyacheslavovich Khmyelev. 'Guus' is spelt with one 'u' in Russian and is very similar to the Russian word for 'goose.'
