GROZNY, June 28 (RIA Novosti) - Law enforcement bodies in Russia's North Caucasus republic of Chechnya launched a search operation for a group of militants suspected of killing four and wounding four more policemen, a police source said on Saturday.
The source said that on Friday night a detachment of policemen was on a patrol in Chechnya's Vedeno district, when they were attacked by a group of unknown militants from ambush.
Two militants were killed by return fire during the armed clash.
Chechnya saw two Kremlin-led military campaigns in the 1990s-early 2000s against separatist forces. Although the active phase of the operation was completed, frequent militant attacks occur in Chechnya and neighboring republics.
