"I confirm our unswerving desire to settle this conflict peacefully," said Saakashvili at a joint news conference following talks with German Foreign Minster Frank-Walter Steinmeier
Germany has proposed a three-stage plan for resolving the Georgia-Abkhazia conflict.
The plan stipulates a commitment to non-violence by all the parties involved in the conflict, the gradual return of Georgian refugees to the region, and the eventual determination of the political status of Abkhazia.
"We are working on the details of the conflict settlement plan together with the U.S. and the EU," Saakashvili said, adding that 20th century conflicts should be solved in the 21st century by "modern European methods"
The German Foreign Minister said that Berlin supported Georgia's territorial integrity.
On Friday morning, Steinmeier will set off for Abkhazia's capital, Sukhumi. He will then fly later in the day to Moscow for further talks.
Abkhazia broke away from Georgia in the early 1990s following the collapse of the Soviet Union. Between 10,000 and 30,000 people were killed in the subsequent hostilities. The two sides signed a ceasefire in 1994 in Moscow.
