ANKARA, August 1 (RIA Novosti) - A total of 17 dead bodies have been recovered from a collapsed school dormitory as rescue workers completed their search for survivors in central Turkey, national media reported on Friday.
A total of 27 people have been pulled out alive from the rubble.
The accident occurred at around 4:15 a.m. local time (01:15 GMT) when more than 40 girls were asleep in the three-story building in the city of Taskent in the Konya Province, the NTV news channel reported.
The dormitory belongs to a religious foundation. The students were attending a course on the Koran during the school's summer break. Preliminary reports said the collapse was caused by a gas explosion.
