MOSCOW, August 3 (RIA Novosti) - Police have seized about 3 kg (7 pounds) of heroin from a Tajik national in the Russian Urals city of Yekaterinburg, a local police source said on Sunday.
The operation to cut short drug trafficking routes in the region was carried out on Saturday when the police searched the suspect's rented apartment, the police source said.
According to the police, the heroin is of Afghan origin, the police source said.
Most of the heroin sold in Russia is smuggled into the country via Tajikistan, which shares a border with Afghanistan, the world's largest heroin producer.
