MOSCOW/BEIJING, August 9 (RIA Novosti) - Lyubov Galkina has won Russia's first Olympic medal, taking the silver in the 10m air rifle event in Beijing.
Galkina, who is the reigning Olympic gold medalist in the 50m women's three positions, also won a silver in the event at the 2004 Athens Games.
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, who is currently in Beijing, congratulated the Russian Olympic squad on their first medal win.
"Congratulations to you all, I am glad that I can do this on behalf of the millions of fans," he said.
Katerina Emmons, 24, from the Czech Republic took the gold.
