NEW YORK, August 19 (RIA Novosti) - A rare two-headed turtle, the star of a pet store in New York, has been stolen, local media said on Tuesday.
The turtle, which had been on display in the pet store in Brooklyn for the past few weeks, disappeared from its tank on Sunday, the Daily News said. The theft occurred just before an article about the turtle was published in a newspaper.
The rare reptile that comes from Florida requires special handling, as it needs feeding separately by hand as both heads are in competition for food.
"We hope whoever has him will come forward," the owner of the pet store, Sean Casey, said. "We'll take the turtle back no questions asked. We want to make sure he gets everything he needs."
More than $1,000 has been donated by concerned customers as a reward for returning the reptile.
